Line of credit for a med spa: how it works and what it costs

Injectables and consumables are paid for weeks before the treatments that use them settle. A revolving line is shaped like that gap. Here is how it works, what it costs, and when it is the wrong product.

The four-week gap every med spa has

A med spa buys its product before it sells it. Neurotoxin, filler, skincare lines, laser handpiece consumables and numbing agents are ordered and paid for weeks before the treatments that use them are booked, performed and settled. A full-time injector can turn over a large order in a month, which is exactly the problem: the invoice from the distributor lands in week one and the deposits from the treatments arrive across weeks three through six. Nothing is wrong with the business. The timing is just backwards, every month.

A revolving line of credit is the product shaped like that gap. You draw for the order, repay as the treatments settle, and draw again for the next one. You are charged only on the balance for the weeks it is outstanding, and nothing when the line sits empty.

How a Backbar line works, mechanically

  1. You open the line once. Application plus three months of business bank statements. 600 minimum FICO, 12 months in business, $25,000 a month in deposits. Approval in 1 to 3 business days.
  2. You draw when the order is placed. Once the line is open, a draw lands in your operating account the same business day.
  3. Each draw repays over 6 to 24 months by fixed ACH, and you can repay early as treatments settle to free the line back up.
  4. Nothing is charged on the undrawn balance. No maintenance fee. If you skip a month, the line costs you nothing that month.
  5. The line is reviewed every 6 months and grows with deposit history. A practice that opens at $50,000 and runs clean through a season routinely comes up at review.

The line carries a UCC-1 filing and a personal guarantee. It does not touch your card settlements or your booking-platform payouts, and there is no holdback percentage on your sales.

What it costs, honestly

The cost of a line is charged on the drawn balance only, for the time it is drawn, and the full schedule is in the agreement before you sign. We do not publish a single representative line-of-credit rate, because the price depends on the line size, the draw term you choose and the file — and because a line that is drawn for three weeks and repaid costs a very different amount from one carried for eighteen months. What we can say plainly: for a recurring short gap, paying only on the weeks the money is out is why owners pick a line over an advance. A working capital advance, by contrast, is priced as a fixed total payback for the whole term whether you needed the money for three weeks or twelve months.

If you want a number before you apply, call and describe your typical monthly order and how long the treatments take to settle. We will tell you what a line that size would run on your draw pattern, and we will tell you if a line is the wrong product.

When a line is the wrong product

  • A device. A laser or body-contouring platform is a multi-year asset. It belongs on a term loan over 36 to 60 months, with the line kept free for consumables.
  • An emergency this week with credit under 600. A handpiece failure, a payroll shortfall, a landlord deadline. Working capital has no minimum credit score and funds in 24 hours.
  • A second treatment room or a buildout. Term loan, or SBA if you are buying the space. See the second location guide.
  • Stacked advances. A line does not fix four daily debits. A term loan consolidation does. Call before you take another position.

Why med spas get declined elsewhere, and not here

Two reasons, usually. Some lenders screen aesthetics out by industry code before a human reads the file. Others read a large recurring product order against a thin balance and call it instability. We read the same statement and see a practice that buys inventory four weeks ahead of revenue, which is the ordinary shape of the business. Backbar Capital approves med spas and aesthetics clinics on the same published criteria as every other beauty business, and a med spa file is one of the most common we see for this product.

What does an unused med spa line of credit cost?

Nothing. Backbar Capital charges no maintenance fee and nothing on an undrawn balance. You pay only on what you draw, which is why the right time to open the line is before the order, not the week the invoice is due.

Can a med spa get a line of credit with a 600 credit score?

Yes. The published minimum is 600 FICO, with 12 months in business and $25,000 a month in business bank deposits. Opening the line takes 1 to 3 business days; draws land the same business day once it is open.

Are med spas declined by most lenders?

Many lenders screen aesthetics out on industry code, or treat large recurring consumable orders as a red flag. Backbar Capital approves med spas and reads the product-before-treatment gap as normal timing, not instability.

Is a line of credit cheaper than a working capital advance for a med spa?

For a recurring, short gap like a monthly injectables order, usually yes, because you pay only on the drawn balance for the weeks it is outstanding. For a one-time, urgent need — a device repair, a payroll shortfall this Friday — working capital is faster and has no credit minimum. Many med spas run both.
